Dr. Yulia Yurtaeva-Martens

Dr. Yulia Yurtaeva-Martens

Dr. Yulia Yurtaeva-Martens is an associated researcher at the Leibniz Institute for Media Research | Hans-Bredow-Institut (HBI).

From 2022 to 2023, Dr. Yulia Yurtaeva-Martens worked at the HBI as a researcher in Research Programme 3 "Knowledge for the Media Society" in the project "The Value of News: The History of the German Press Agency (dpa)".
 
After studying history, film, and media studies in Berlin and Potsdam, she works as a research assistant at the Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf in Potsdam in the media studies program. As a research officer in the field of research and innovation, she took over the coordination of the Graduate Academy at the Film University in 2022-2023. She has also taught at the Philipps University Marburg.
 
Since 2023, Yulia has been employed as a postdoctoral researcher in the third-party funded project "For Real? Virtual encounters with Holocaust survivors" at the Film University.
 
Her research interests include European television and media history, particularly the history of media organizations and events from a transnational perspective, research on women in media history and popular television entertainment.
 
Dr. Yulia Yurtaeva-Martens received her PhD at the Film University of Potsdam on television programme exchanges in Eastern Europe during the Cold War in the period of 1960-1993.
