Dr. Felix Victor Münch

Felix Victor Münch is a Computational Social Science Postdoc Researcher in our Media Research Methods Lab. He is currently working with other members of the Media Research Methods Lab (MRML) to build our Social Media Observatory (SMO). The SMO supports all interested projects of the Research Institute Social Cohesion (RISC) with data, tools and competences to work independently on questions around media-based public spheres, while advancing its own research on digital, networked and individualised mass communication with the tools of Computational Social Sciences.

He was previously a Research Fellow since October 2018 and a Postdoctoral Researcher in our Algorithmed Public Spheres collegium from March 2019. During this time, he started a data mining project to test sampling methods for networked social media data, which is now a data foundation of the SMO.

He completed his PhD at the Digital Media Research Centre at Queensland University of Technology (Brisbane, Australia). For his PhD project (completed February 2019), he developed a methodological framework and explored network research methods for large-scale studies of mass communication in a networked public sphere. After studying physics (B.Sc., LMU Munich, 2007-2010), journalism (M.A., LMU Munich and German School of Journalism, 2010-2012), and work experience as a user experience designer and communication strategist in the field of online brand communication (2012-2014), his academic interests now focus on network research, Big Social Data, online media and theories of the public sphere.

His website and other online profiles can be found at https://felixvictor.net.
