Abstract
Most young users do not yet have a pronounced general interest in classic "hard news", i.e. news with a political and economic focus. Nevertheless, it is important to most teenagers and young adults to be up to date and actively seek information in the news. This is shown by results from six focus groups with 14- to 24-year-olds conducted as part of the #UseTheNews project. In this age group, the social component of news plays an important role: being informed means having something to talk about in order to be able to join in the conversation and integrate - both among friends and at school or university.
