New Law against "Manipulation of Information"

In her new blog post on juwiss.de, Amélie Pia Heldt writes about the challenges to regulate “fake news.”

At the beginning of 2018, President Emmanuel Macron announced a law against “fake news.” It was triggered by the dissemination of disinformation during the election campaign as well as by the general fear that the dissemination of incorrect information on the Internet could lead to an increasing falsification of political discourse. The bill is a law against the “manipulation of information” and has been before the French government since May 2018. In this way, the French legislator tries to avoid the diffuse phenomenon surrounding the term “fake news” and to address the dissemination of disinformation instead.
