Another Book on Social Media!

Another Book on Social Media!

On 5 October 2017, Dr. Jan-Hinrik Schmidt has published the second edition of his book ‘Social Media’ at Springer Fachmedien Verlag. It is not a guidebook but a fundamental scientific book for everyone who wants to understand how digital social media works and how it is used.

Hamburg 5 October 2017 – What do people with the media? What does media with the people? These two elementary questions of communication science are answered by Jan-Hinrik Schmidt in the new edition of his book ‘Social Media’. In his book, he explains the functioning of social media and its effects by using current examples, such as privacy, opinion formation or the exchange of knowledge. Everyone who expects a guide book will be equally disappointment and positively surprised. “My book does not explain how successful online marketing works. It rather provides a basic knowledge that helps you to answer these and other questions regarding social media”, explains Schmidt.

In the last years after publishing the first edition of ‘Social Media’, the researcher for digital media and political communication spoke to different audiences about his research findings and, thereby, managed to present complex studies in a comprehensive and applicable way without losing their scientific importance. This is reflected in the updated edition, which has been published in the series “Medienwissen Kompakt” and addresses a non-scientific audience.
In BredowCast No. 30, the podcast of the Hans-Bredow-Institut, Schmidt talks to Daniela Friedrich about his book and the challenge of transfer-oriented scientific communication.
