Victims of digital sexualised violence are mostly left alone.
Valerie Rhein, Dr. Anja Schmidt (University of Halle-Wittenberg) and an anonymous activist from ANNA NACKT [ANNA NAKED] will discuss how to address this situation on
20 January 2022 at 6 p.m. CET at the HU Berlin.
About the Event
Sexualised violence in the digital space takes on very different forms. An important role is played by so-called user-generated content pornography platforms such as xHamster and Pornhub, because users themselves upload the content on these platforms. In recent years, cases have repeatedly come to light in which sexual material was published without the consent of the person(s) involved. In addition to public debates on so-called "Revenge Porn", the publication of genital recordings from the festival "Moni's Revenge" on the pornography platform xHamster attracted (brief) attention in recent years.
However, although digital sexualised violence is widespread, those affected have so far been mostly left alone. There is a lack of political and legal mechanisms to be able to react appropriately to these cases. What do those affected need to respond to the violence they experience? How can pornography platforms be regulated in a way that ensures sexual self-determination? What role can and should criminal law regulations play here?
The event is organised by the Chair of Public Law and Gender Studies at Humboldt University Berlin, Simone Kreutz and Prof. Dr. Ulrike Lembke.
