Journalism, Artificial Intelligence and the Algorithmic Public Sphere

As part of this panel, Prof. Dr. Wiebke Loosen will discuss whether a robot can replace a journalist in the future at the Cologne Futures 2020 conference.
The event will be held online in English.
About the Event
With the rise of artificial intelligence (AI), a basic principle that has always shaped journalism is at stake: the human factor. Publishers worldwide rely on texts automatically generated by algorithms. In stock market and sports reporting, but also in financially crisis-ridden local journalism, computer-generated stories already play a major role today - and are difficult for users to recognize as such. Yet we are only at the beginning of a development that could significantly change not only journalism but also public discourse.
