Lisa Merten will open the conference "Information Literacy and Democracy" with her keynote "
Everything Different through Google and Facebook? Practices, Principles and Paradoxes of Information-Oriented Media Use Online".
The event is organised by the project group
"Information Literacy and Democracy" (IDE). Algorithm-controlled information acquisition and provision is today difficult for users to understand, neither at the actor level, nor with regard to technical mechanisms of action. Studies on information literacy point to considerable deficits.
The Information Literacy and Democracy (IDE) project aims to raise awareness of the problem in Lower Saxony. Discussions will take place in public and solutions will be sought. It is important to position the topic as a critical question of the 21st century in the professional world as well as in the public. To this end, different groups of actors are to be brought together in order to gain as comprehensive a picture as possible of the subject area, the perceived problem areas and solution perspectives, in particular for the education sector.
