Dr. Christian Potschka

Christian Potschka studied communication science and politics at the University of Augsburg, Germany, and the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, NZ. He holds a PhD in media political economy and communications policy from Loughborough University, UK. In his doctoral dissertation ‘Towards a Market in Broadcasting: A Comparative Analysis of British and German Communications Policy’ he compares communications policy and regulation in the two countries under study, focusing on the shifts from socio-cultural media policy-making to market-driven politics. The thesis was supervised by Prof. Peter Golding. It has been accepted for publication by Palgrave Macmillan in autumn 2011. To complement his studies, Christian Potschka completed various internships (e.g. Airbus, Axel Springer, German Bundestag).
In July/August 2011 he worked as a freelancer in the project ‘Redefining and Repositioning Public Service Broadcasting in the Digital and Multiplatform Scenario’.
Christian Potschka has research interests in the areas of media- and communications policy, media political economy, media economics, regulation and PSB funding.
