Hans Bredow Institute Celebrates 60th Anniversary

With a festive reception and over 150 guests the Hans Bredow Institute celebrated its 60th anniversary on 31 May 2010. NDR director Lutz Marmor, the president of the University of Hamburg Prof. Dr. Dieter Lenzen, and Dr. Rolf Greve, senior official of the Hamburg Ministry of Science and Research, congratulated the Institute and gave short welcoming speeches.
The anniversary falls into a phase of substantial change of the research organisation: in the upcoming years, the institute will step by step expand its activities in the areas of research, transfer and service. The medium-term objective is the admission to the Leibniz Association as advised by the most recent report of the German Council of Science and Humanities on the situation of the state of media and communication sciences. The Hamburg Ministry of Science and Research expressly supports this perspective.
Dr. Herlind Gundelach, Senator for Science and Research, Hamburg: “The Hans Bredow Institute is one of a kind in Germany and vital for orientation in the media society. The rapid development of media leads to the Institute being more and more utilised by researchers and practitioners in Germany and abroad. The Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg insistently supports the initiated development towards a national centre for media and communication research. Being a city associated with media, for Hamburg the 60th anniversary presents a special occasion to sincerely thank all former and active involved parties for their excellent work. The Hans Bredow Institute puts a distinctive face on media research, far beyond Hamburg’s boundaries.”
