EU Kids Online II

Within the project EU Kids Online, among others, a need was determined for internationally comparative findings regarding online usage of adolescents and related opportunities and risks. The follow-up project EU Kids Online II aims to close this gap, starting 12 June 2009. EU Kids Online II is sponsored within the Safer Internet Plus Programme. The duration of the project is two years.

The project's core is formed by a representative survey in at least 20 European countries, in each case among 1,000 children between the age of 9 and 17 as well as one parent at a time. This is supposed to give some indication of the opportunities and risks related to online usage and also to allow for the verification of hypotheses, which have come up during the first project, but due to the present database could not yet be examined.

The coordination of the project again lies with the London School of Economics, supervened by four partner institutions. Apart from universities from Portugal, Ireland and Slowenia, the Hans Bredow Institute is involved as an applicant. The network further encompasses scientists from all other European countries, which are responsible for quality management of the survey in the respective countries as well as for the distribution of the results on a national level. The data assessment is planned to be carried out by an international research company, which closely synchronises with the project team and the respective national members of the network. The Hans Bredow Institute will coordinate the statistical data evaluation.
